Do you provide sound systems for outdoor concerts and commencements?
Yes. Black Diamond deploys professional line array speaker systems for outdoor events including summer concerts, town common events, and school commencements across New England. Line arrays deliver consistent, even coverage over large distances and open-air crowds with far greater clarity and projection than conventional speaker stacks.
Can you support a DJ or band that has their own technical rider?
Absolutely. We offer rider fulfillment and production support for touring DJs, live bands, and production companies performing in New England. We can supplement, backline, or fully supply the front-of-house sound depending on the artist's technical requirements. We work directly with tour managers and production coordinators to keep communication tight.
What is the difference between a standard PA and a line array?
A standard PA system uses one or two boxes per side that project sound in a widening cone. This works well for smaller rooms but becomes inconsistent at distance in outdoor settings. A line array stacks multiple curved speaker elements vertically, using physics to control the dispersion pattern and deliver even, controlled sound from front row to the back of a crowd. For outdoor events over roughly 400 attendees, or any event where throw distance exceeds 150 feet, line array is the right choice.
Do you include a sound technician with the rental, or is it self-operated?
Staffed operation is available and recommended for most events. We can also arrange self-serve delivery and pickup for clients who have their own operator. For any event with live programming, speeches, or a live band, we strongly recommend a staffed engineer on-site. Contact us and we will build the right package for your event and budget.
What areas in New England do you serve for sound system rentals?
We serve all of New England, with a primary focus on Greater Boston, Eastern Massachusetts, the MetroWest corridor, the North Shore, the South Shore, Cape Cod, Rhode Island, and Southern New Hampshire. For larger events and productions, we regularly travel throughout the full New England region.
Can sound be combined with other Black Diamond services?
Yes, and it is the most efficient way to produce an event. When Black Diamond handles sound, lighting, DJ entertainment, live musicians, and AV together, all elements are coordinated through one team, one production schedule, and one point of contact. There are no handoffs between vendors when a cue needs to happen at exactly the right moment.
