Joey Lavish grew up in Natick, Massachusetts, but "grew up" understates it. Between 5th and 8th grade, he attended four different schools as his family relocated repeatedly. Most kids find that destabilizing. Joey found it instructive. Every new room taught him something a booth can't: how to read a crowd of strangers fast, how to find the energy in an unfamiliar space, and how to earn trust before the first track drops.
He began shadowing established DJs at Boston nightclubs and private events in 2011, absorbing every detail of their setups, their timing, and their instincts. By 2012, he was running his own sets. But Joey recognized early that a DJ who relies entirely on others for logistics and production is building on sand. He dove into graphic design, photography, marketing, videography, and entrepreneurship: not as a hobby, but as armor.
That investment shows. Joey brings a full understanding of how an event breathes: the pacing of the room, the relationship between sound and energy, the way a single track choice can turn a restless crowd into a unified one. That kind of judgment is not taught. It is earned over hundreds of hours in rooms that demand your best, and do not wait for you to warm up.
