James Malonson came up through the New England event scene as a DJ and quickly proved that his skill set ran deeper than what the speakers could contain. His instinct for how events are built, how logistics flow, and how teams perform under pressure earned him a role that puts those instincts to work at the highest level. Today, he serves as Director of Operations at Black Diamond Event Production.

In that role, James oversees the operational infrastructure behind every Black Diamond production. Crew coordination, equipment logistics, timeline management, load-in sequencing, and real-time problem solving are the tools of his trade, and he uses them with the same exactness he brings to a DJ set. Every event that leaves the Black Diamond shop does so because James made sure it could.
He still performs. Still reads rooms. Still knows that the best technical operation in the world means nothing if the energy on the dance floor falls flat. That dual perspective, operator and performer, is what makes him one of the most complete professionals in the business, and why Black Diamond awarded him the 2025 MVP Award.
