Black Diamond Event Production James
Malonson

A New England event industry veteran who runs the floor and the floor plan. James directs operations, anchors logistics, and brings the same technical precision behind the decks that he applies to every production Black Diamond executes.

3+ Years in the Industry
100+ Events Executed
3 Roles Mastered
2025 BDEP MVP Award

Operations First.
Dance Floor Always.

James Malonson came up through the New England event scene as a DJ and quickly proved that his skill set ran deeper than what the speakers could contain. His instinct for how events are built, how logistics flow, and how teams perform under pressure earned him a role that puts those instincts to work at the highest level. Today, he serves as Director of Operations at Black Diamond Event Production.

"He sees the whole room before anyone else does. That's rare in this business."

In that role, James oversees the operational infrastructure behind every Black Diamond production. Crew coordination, equipment logistics, timeline management, load-in sequencing, and real-time problem solving are the tools of his trade, and he uses them with the same exactness he brings to a DJ set. Every event that leaves the Black Diamond shop does so because James made sure it could.

He still performs. Still reads rooms. Still knows that the best technical operation in the world means nothing if the energy on the dance floor falls flat. That dual perspective, operator and performer, is what makes him one of the most complete professionals in the business, and why Black Diamond awarded him the 2025 MVP Award.

New England clients count on James for high-stakes events where the margin for error is zero: corporate galas, large-scale weddings, multi-room private events, and productions that require a second set of expert eyes on everything from staging to sound.

Recognition

2025
Black Diamond
MVP Award

Each year, Black Diamond recognizes one team member whose contribution to the company transcends their job description. The MVP Award is given to the person whose leadership, commitment, and performance elevated the entire organization over the course of the year.

In 2025, that person was James Malonson. His work as Director of Operations transformed how Black Diamond executes at scale, and his presence behind the decks continued to set the standard for what a Black Diamond DJ performance looks and sounds like. Leading from the front, solving problems before clients notice them, and making every person on the crew better: that is what earned James this recognition.

Three Disciplines.
One Professional.

Operations Leadership

James directs the full operational lifecycle of Black Diamond productions: crew scheduling, equipment logistics, load-in timelines, and day-of execution. He is the person other pros call when the stakes are high and the margin for error is zero. His systems are why Black Diamond events run on time, every time.

DJ Performance

James started behind the decks and never left. His DJ performances are rooted in deep musicality and real crowd instinct, the kind that only comes from years of reading rooms across New England's most demanding event venues. He blends technical command with the feel-it-in-the-room energy that separates a good set from one guests remember.

Lighting and Technical Production

Beyond music and logistics, James has deep expertise in event lighting design and technical production. He understands how a room transforms when lighting is executed with intent, and he applies that knowledge to productions ranging from intimate private celebrations to large corporate galas and wedding receptions.
